The Victron Phoenix chargers are built to industrial standards! They have an adaptive 4-stage charge model: bulk, absorption, float, and storage. The Phoenix chargers have two full rated outputs and one 4 Amp output (for maintaining a starter battery for example). The Phoenix charger features a microprocessor controlled adaptive battery management system that can be preset to suit different types of batteries. The adaptive charge feature will automatically optimize the charge process relative to the way the battery is being used.

The Victron Phoenix Charger has an extremely wide input Voltage range, and accepts both AC or DC. It can be used with either a 90 – 265 Volt 45 – 65 Hz AC supply, or a 90 – 400 Volt DC supply (for DC-to-DC Voltage conversion). This means it works with any grid (shore) power supply world-wide, making it the ideal shore power charger for a sea-going yacht for example.

Since the charge Voltages (and current) are fully adjustable this charger will work with all battery types, including Lithium-ion (LiFePO4) batteries.

Absorb time is adaptive, based on battery discharge. When only shallow discharges occur (for example a yacht connected to shore power) the absorption time is kept short in order to prevent overcharging of the battery. After a deep discharge the absorption time is automatically increased to make sure that the battery is completely recharged.

BatterySafe mode prevents damage due to excessive gassing: If, in order to quickly charge a battery, a high charge current in combination with a high absorption voltage has been chosen, the Phoenix Charger will prevent damage due to excessive gassing by automatically limiting the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reached.

Storage mode keeps the battery charged while minimizing maintenance and water use. When the charger sees minimal battery use in 24 hours it lowers the absorb Voltage to 13.2 Volt, thereby minimizing gassing. Once a week the Voltage is raised to prevent stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation.

Temperature compensation is used to through the supplied temperature sensor, adjusting the charge Voltage based on battery temperature. The (optional) MK3-USB interface can be used to connect the charger to a computer (and some cell phones that have a mini-USB interface). With the VictronConnect software all the charge parameters can be adjusted.
